Keen to provide more than reading support in their children's schools, the original Science Sisters group, based in Christchurch, Dorset set out to help their local schools engage children in science, challenging perceptions and inspiring young imaginations. We set up science clubs, initiated BA Crest Award and National Science & Engineering Week participation, developed and delivered practical activity sessions in schools, organised inter-school competitions and facilitated knowledge sharing events for Head Teachers, Science Co- ordinators and teaching assistants. Above all, the original core of ten mums honed their investigative, administrative and presentation skills, giving them the confidence to enhance, progress, or kick-start their careers in science. Science Sisters is a growing network of mums (and dads) with scientific, technical or engineering experience and/or interests who are starting to take their knowledge and skills back to school. Some are qualified scientists and engineers, some are studying, on a career break, working part-time to fit school hours or just fascinated by science and technology. Welcome And now, following interest and requests from other regions, Science Sisters are extending their programme of training and ongoing support to other groups of parents and schools around the UK All Science Sisters are registered STEM Ambassadors and are CRB checked. As STEM Ambassadors each Science Sister is insured when running activities or visiting schools or other community groups. © Katalytik 2010 all rights reserved Made with Xara To find out more about setting up a network in your local school pyramid contact us at info@katalytik.co.uk
